Hotel Zubieta

The building is beautiful, but several rooms are very dated and poorly kept. We paid €260 a night for the ‘Deluxe Suite’, only to be told on arrival that the good rooms were already taken and we’d been left with a dark room at the back. It smelled of mould as soon as we opened the door, and the worn bed sagged in the middle. There’s no air conditioning in any of the rooms, and the bathroom looked tired too. Reception said we were just unlucky and offered a machine to help with the smell. After a stressful few hours, they said they could move us the next day once someone checked out. The replacement room was fine. Customer support made no real effort to help otherwise. The receptionist kept insisting that the website included a photo of our room, even at midnight when we were exhausted and just wanted to sleep. That pushiness wasn’t needed. The hotel needs major improvement for this price, and the staff need customer care training. We hoped they’d recognize how badly the first night had been handled, but the only offer was a €20 discount. It’s a shame to write this, but people should know what the hotel is like.

The team were kind, and it was easy to walk to restaurants. It’s a beautiful building, but it’s a shame they put in a pool instead of air conditioning. The fan barely moved any air, so I slept badly during our short stay.

The classical style is lovely, and we spent a lot of time relaxing in the garden. It’s in a fantastic spot, and the staff were very friendly. We had a wonderful stay here. Enjoy!

Whenever I stay somewhere with a swimming pool, bad weather seems to follow me. I still really enjoyed my visit. The staff were friendly and helpful, and even tried to find out how I could get into the church in Lekeitio, which was closed because it wasn’t the season. It’s a charming hotel where locals come in for drinks or coffee, while hotel guests have a separate area. I didn’t take photos, but there are already plenty online to give you an idea. One small request: please use proper salt and pepper shakers instead of little paper bags.
