We stayed around Easter, and the room felt comfortable and steady in temperature. The bathroom radiator helped keep us warm. Our junior suite had plenty of space, though its old-fashioned design and bed could use improvement. The bathroom looked dated too, but worked fine. The hotel itself is traditional and a little dated, though functional. Its peaceful lake views make for a relaxing stay, but sound carries from the large central common area to many rooms, which takes away a little from the calm.

The food was delicious and clearly prepared with care, a welcome change after disappointing dinners at many other Paradors. Managers from those places should come see how it’s done. From the front door, there are hiking routes for every level, and the rooms’ balconies look out over the pantano de Sau. This is the best Parador I’ve stayed in.

The location is lovely and really peaceful, and the rooms are nice. Dinner and breakfast were fairly good too. But the doors on our floor were so stiff that everyone kept banging them, and some of the staff came across as quite rude. We’ve stayed at a lot of Paradors, and this one had the worst service by far.

The Superior room had stunning lake views, and it was spacious, with a large bathroom and a great bed. Breakfast was delicious, and the setting is gorgeous. The kitchen closes from 3:30-8:00, even for tapas, so keep that in mind. We were pleasantly surprised to find a terrific Catalan restaurant a couple of miles away. There are also lots of hiking trails around.

What a view. We absolutely loved the place and will go back. The property is lovely, with spacious bedrooms, though they need refurbishing. That work is being done from January to May 2025. Service was mostly courteous, helpful, and pleasant, with one or two exceptions. There are great hikes to the lake and monastery if that’s your thing.
