Hotel Monumento Can Garay

Sophie made our two nights especially enjoyable. She was welcoming, funny and helpful, and served excellent dinners cooked by her husband. The room was comfortable and had a lovely view, while the garden was peaceful and beautifully kept. This is a characterful, quirky family hotel in a 1906 building, with interesting artwork and lovely stained glass throughout. We had a fabulous stay.

We only had a short visit while in the area for a family wedding, so we missed out on walking and hope to come back for longer. Sophie was incredibly helpful. Breakfast was a generous continental and Catalan spread of bread, croissants, local meats and cheeses, with plenty of juice and coffee. We also had dinner on our first night: three delicious courses, without too much food.

The kids were happy playing on the trampoline in the big garden, and our room was spacious and comfortable. We stayed here for one night while biking with the children and really enjoyed it. Sophie looked after us well and made sure everyone was happy, including with a wonderful dinner. The house itself is a beautiful historic place and well worth seeing.

We paid 130€ and still have no idea what for. The Google photos look amazing, but the reality didn’t match them, and we felt misled. Our stay was uncomfortable from the start: there’s no air conditioning in the rooms, so 32-degree summer weather is a problem. The host suggested closing the window when we couldn’t sleep, as if that would help in that heat without AC. A nearby party kept us awake until three in the morning, so we overslept breakfast, and the host wasn’t pleased about that either. Getting between the garden and our room was a hassle. The entrance door was kept closed even though the grounds were open, so each return meant ringing the bell and waiting for someone to let us in, sometimes without an immediate response. There’s no room fridge, either. The owners would let us use theirs for snacks, but seemed annoyed when we asked. We were also told we couldn’t sit in the garden or shared living room unless eating at their restaurant. When we brought wine and cheese and tried to sit in a different part of the garden, far from the restaurant tables, we were made to leave the property. The lady seems to think the Golf Stream will cool her guests, but Toto, I have a feeling you're not in the UK anymore.
