Directly horrifying and not recommendable. The rooms we stayed in felt like they belonged in a very low-level hostel. Selling them as hotel rooms should be prohibited, or the hotel category should be downgraded.

The balconies are wide and lined with flowers, with an inspiring view. Inside, the reception area, elevator, floors, and rooms are spotless. We got a warm welcome, and the owner personally checked in to make sure we were satisfied. The reasonable fare included a copious breakfast that set us up to explore the town and nearby mountains. Afterwards, it was a pleasure to return to comfortable rooms for an evening aperitif before a scrumptious dinner served on the premises. Exceptional in every way. Sadly, we left with a secret promise to return soon.

My father stayed at the Fonda Mercè 40-50 years ago and liked it so much he returned every summer. A couple of weeks ago, I brought my family, and we loved it too. We’re three generations of guests now. The staff are so friendly and make you feel at home, and the rooms are lovely and comfortable. I still dream about the breakfast. Llívia is a great base for discovering Cerdanya and taking the yellow train. We’ll definitely return, since we left wanting to try dinner at the restaurant.

You feel right at home with the personalized, family-run service. It’s the perfect mountain hotel, with a traditional Catalan breakfast and croissants worthy of the best French bakeries. Lunch is available at the hotel, but not dinner. There are excellent restaurants in town, including the bistro just across the street and places recommended by the Rough Guide a few minutes’ walk away.
