Apartaments Els Llorers

I'm a mum of two toddlers, and I'm happy to say they had so much fun here. There's a minibus to the beach if you don't feel like walking, though it's no more than a 15-minute walk. This hotel apartment doesn't disappoint.

The pool area is lovely for kids, with plenty of sunbeds, though they get taken quickly. Everything around the hotel was very clean. There's a smaller pool area that we didn't use, plus a larger, more accommodating one by the bar. The bar is modern and lovely, and the food was fresh and tasty. Drinks were fine too, although prices there are higher, and the food is a little pricier than usual. The nearest other bar is a 20-minute walk away, so you're a bit stuck with those prices. Reception was fine. The hotel is tucked away in a quiet area, at the top of a very steep hill that coaches can't get up. Our Jet2 coach dropped us two streets away, which was hard with a double pushchair, the kids and two 22kg cases. There's a free hourly minivan to the nearest supermarket and the main beach end, with pickups at the drop-off points. It runs from 0830 to 2200, but we only saw it move a few times during our week. The rooms are very spacious, but basic. We had no air conditioning at all, and it was boiling in there all week. Our children couldn't sleep through the night. The bedding had lots of hairs on it too, though that was a minor issue by comparison. An oven would be useful; there are only gas hobs, supplied by a bottle under the worktop. Kids' entertainment, a club and activities were offered Thursday through Sunday, but nothing Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, and what they did offer was very basic. We might stay again, but not with young children because of that steep hill. One thing to watch at the bar is the prices. The first night we needed milk and were charged €5.20 for a carton of UHT milk. On our last night, the same thing was €3.00.

The pool and restaurant were great, but getting any rest was unbearable. The walls are paper thin, so you hear everything, whether it's a tap running upstairs, next door or below. The apartments aren't modern at all and need renovating.

The hotel itself was lovely and clean, and the staff caused us no problems. We didn't have the bugs or dirt mentioned in many bad reviews. The one issue was the pool's outer edge: it's so rough and basically impossible to avoid that we came away with cuts and scratches all over.
