The food and service were good, and so was the location. But in a lot of ways the hotel felt mediocre. The rooms seem stuck in the 90s, with outlets in odd places, and there are no locks on the bathroom doors.

Surf Mar Hotel has a welcoming feel, a fantastic location, and friendly, helpful staff. The facilities were clean and well maintained, making it a relaxing place to enjoy a holiday. My only problem was the check-in wait. I was first in line, but a group got priority and I had to wait quite a while for my room. Everything else was excellent, and I'd still recommend it for a comfortable, enjoyable stay.

The bar, restaurant and housekeeping staff were very friendly, but the entertainment staff didn't make the holiday enjoyable. There was almost nothing going on despite the schedule being packed with activities and attractions. They didn't seem able to get people involved in games and activities beyond those for children, and spent most of their time in the mini club. We've had people at other hotels entertain a crowd with nothing more than smiles and enthusiasm. I believe people, not places, make memories, and here they didn't rise to the occasion. It's a shame for a hotel in such a beautiful location to be so boring. I hope this reaches management. The hotel badly needs renovation. The rooms were clean and cleaned thoroughly, but the beds, bathrooms, wardrobes and rooms themselves need updating. Standard rooms don't have refrigerators. You can rent one from reception for 5 euros a day, which hardly feels like 4-star service. The food left a lot to be desired, especially its temperature. Hot dishes brought out from the kitchen on carts were barely warm, mini chocolate pancakes were served frozen, some meat was undercooked, and cold fries were normal. Those are just a few examples, even though the restaurant itself looked quite decent. The games and entertainment equipment was in poor condition too. The mini golf course was a clear example, and the tennis rackets were child-sized. Tennis cost 30 euros per hour, even with all-inclusive. My family and I stayed here, and I hope this honest review reaches management.

We had fun with the nice animators, Irene and Felipe. The room was good too.
