Hotel La Carolina

The pool looks more like decoration, and it’s a lot smaller than the photos suggest. The place had a strange feel, and the staff seemed careless. I wouldn’t go back.

The way staff treated us on our last day was the worst part. I left some belongings by the pool while using the hotel bathroom, still within the hotel’s private, CCTV-covered grounds. When I came back, they were gone. The receptionist, whose desk faces the pool, said she hadn’t seen anything. She said only her boss, who wasn’t available, or the police could check the cameras. When I asked more, she told me to go to the police, said she wouldn’t speak to me anymore, and blamed me for leaving things unattended on the hotel’s PRIVATE property. I felt completely dismissed by the unfriendly staff. The rest of the stay was disappointing too. The hotel is supposed to be four stars, but it lacked facilities and service. Our basic room had no kettle or mini fridge, the AC barely worked, it smelled damp like an old church, and the bathroom had no ventilation. The walls were so thin we could hear a mouse squeak three rooms away. I’ve never had to buy earplugs on vacation before. Breakfast was poor, and the food wasn’t very fresh or warm. The pool water looked murky and neglected until we asked a staff member about it, then it was clear and filtered the next day. The staff were rude and uninterested when we raised questions or concerns. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Breakfast was good! Most of the staff were friendly, though the short-haired brunette at reception was unfriendly every time. Cleaning noise from next door woke me around 9:30 or 10 each morning.

The location is a real plus, and the rooms and beds are very spacious. Service was lovely, but the breakfasts were quite modest. The building smells damp. It’s not a disaster, though it wasn’t great either.
