AZZ Guadacorte Campo de Gibraltar

After several good visits in the past, this stay was a real letdown. The food was poor, our bathroom had multiple problems, and towels weren't brought to our room after 4pm each day. Around the pool, there weren't enough loungers, and guests ignored the signs by leaving towels on them for hours. Reception sent us to the pool staff, who said it wasn't their responsibility. People smoked near the pool bar and even beside the children's playroom. The corridor by the rooms often smelled strongly of hashish. This was below what I'd expect from a 4-star hotel. I regretfully won't return to Guadacorte Park Hotel or recommend it again.

We planned to stay for 10 days, but left after 6 to see other areas. The hotel didn't apply the unused amount to meals, and we accepted that without a problem. What left us upset was the roughly 200 Euros we'd kept in our bags. Even with a Do Not Disturb / Do Not Clean sign up, housekeeping came in and cleaned the room. The money was gone afterward. We reported it right away, but had a flight to catch and couldn't wait for the manager. The amount itself isn't huge, but it made for a very negative stay. I'd warn other travellers not to leave cash in a hotel room, since theft can happen anywhere. We also intend to report it to the local police when we get back.

The breakfast buffet was excellent, and the snacks and dinner we had there were good too. We paid under 60 euros in March, in the off season. Our room faced the parking lot and was rather worn and getting shabby, though it was comfortable and everything worked. The rooms looking onto the pool and gardens seem like a better choice. There’s a huge garden around the grounds, and the pool is open from June to September. Inside, there's a large dining area and bar that opens onto a pleasant patio and pool.

We only stayed a night because we had a morning flight from Gibraltar. The hotel looks a bit tired, but I don't think it deserves the critical reviews. Our room was clean and well equipped, with a nice balcony over a picturesque garden. Dinner was tasty, and breakfast had just about everything you could think of. Staff were excellent, from the professional, efficient reception team to the attentive, helpful people in the restaurant and bar. I'd recommend it for a short stay.
