Hostal Emilio

The day staff were cheerful, and it's about a 20-minute walk from airport Terminal 3 over the footbridge. The room was average, but the shower cabin has to be the smallest in the universe!

Cheap and close to the airport, and pretty much what you'd expect. The room was clean enough, though it wasn't in great shape. Nothing especially awful, nothing especially good.

The room was spacious and had its own bathroom, and there's a shared area with a fridge and microwave. Getting to the airport is handy: Barajas metro station is about a 6-7 minute walk away, then it's a 2-minute ride to either terminal. The place feels very old-fashioned, and the furniture in the room is old and poorly looked after. Staff were okay, but not especially friendly or engaging. A decent enough stay.

We paid 69€ for one night, and the rooms were quite dirty. There was no heater or thick blanket even though it got down to 4° C at night. The bathroom had no window or ventilation and smelled strange, and children were noisy late into the night. The location is fairly close to the airport by taxi, but the area felt pretty dodgy, which was about its only redeeming feature. The woman at the front desk barely spoke English. She repeatedly called my Korean boyfriend, who booked the room, "chinito" and pulled the corners of her eyes back while laughing. Completely unacceptable. The owners seem to know that people will come because of the airport location and charge whatever they want, but the hostel's quality and the receptionist's racist behavior were unacceptable.
