ICON Wipton by Petit Palace

The hallways didn't quite give me the feel of the nice, luxurious hotel I expected. Once I got to the room, though, all was well. The rooms were nice, the freebies were helpful, and they stayed quiet despite the perfect location. The staff were friendly and helpful too.

I tried to book through the hotel's website and by email, but I couldn't get anywhere with the reservation staff. All they said was no. I ended up booking through another platform because "pablo" wasn't helpful enough.

We had a great stay at icon Wilton hotel. Pablo and Enrique especially were friendly and helpful, as were the rest of the staff.

The location was excellent, and Quintin restaurant right next door was a plus. The rest of our stay was more negative than positive. Housekeeping didn't clean properly: during our 6 day stay they didn't change the sheets, took out no trash, and generally left things dirty. They changed the covers once, but not the pillowcases. The room also had poor sound insulation, so we kept hearing noise and other guests. It was 8 degrees and freezing, with no air-conditioning. I was cold enough to need a sweater to sleep. There was no ventilation either, so we had to keep opening the windows for air, which made the room even colder. Breakfast was okay but lacked variety, with no salads at all, which should be a must. At checkout, the receptionist told me I owed 80€ for extras, though we'd only had two waters and a coke through room service. She also insisted that three of our friends had come for breakfast and that we had to pay 60€ for their meals. We don't have friends in Madrid. When I said that wasn't true, she argued, “yes it was,” and was very rude. Her colleague stepped in to apologize after she'd crossed the line, trying to convince me of something completely untrue and make me pay for random people's breakfasts. I'd happily visit Madrid again, but not this hotel.
