Las Chimeneas

The location was amazing, and Emma and David were such thoughtful hosts. Two of us were very inexperienced walkers, but they never made us feel like a burden, and their staff were just as lovely. We had a fabulous week at Las Chimeneas on the 'Walk with Chris Stewart (author of Driving over Lemons) week. Chris was a delight, and it was lovely to meet his wife Anna too. This was my fourth time back, and Fiesta Week was a great reminder of why I keep returning. There were twenty of us, 8 couples and four singles, all strangers at first but friends by the end. The place is peaceful, the food is fabulous, and it's easy to meet fellow travellers who are on a similar wavelength. My group of three stayed in a wonderful three bed house with a fantastic view stretching to the Mediterranean, many miles away. Three meals a day are included, and dinner in particular was wonderful. Mairena is a tiny village in the Alpujarrah mountains, about two thousand feet above sea level on the spring line. David and Emma Illsley fell for the area twenty five or more years ago, bought a property, created a restaurant, and started offering holidays. I can't recommend it highly enough.

The home cooked evening meals were superb! Emma and David were wonderful hosts, and the whole staff helped make our stay warm and memorable. We can't praise this lovely place enough. We'll be back. 😋

The food was fantastic, and the interior has been renovated beautifully. The pueblo blanco has such a relaxed feel, almost as if time stopped here 80 years ago, which is marvelous. David, the owner, is a wonderful British gentleman with real hospitality. Thanks for having us.
