Senator Port Mahón

The food was a real letdown. The hot dishes were completely cold, the salad leaves were wilted, and the paella seemed to be made with spaghetti from the day before. Most of the buffet meat was bone. The hotel itself was fine and the staff were excellent. The views were good, but we could hear the air conditioning in the next room running all night, which kept us awake.

The staff were very nice and helpful, and the food was very good. The accommodation was also very good, though I do wish I’d booked a balcony. Our room was fine, the shower was great, and the air conditioning was powerful. I couldn’t work out how to control it, though, and woke up cold a few times during the night before figuring out a workaround. The beds were the best I’ve slept in for a very long time.

Breakfast this morning had a huge range of choices, from cold items to hot food. Antonio checked us in to room 233, and we’re very pleased with it. The balcony views are excellent. We arrived on 14 September for 10 nights, with the temperature at 28c. I’ll post another review at the end of our break, which I expect will be as positive as this first one.

We had a fabulous two-week stay at the Seth Port Mahon to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary, and wanted something different from our usual resort hotel holiday. The pool was lovely, and we could always find sunbeds whatever time of day. Reception staff made us feel very welcome when we arrived. Most of the staff were pleasant, but the loveliest was the woman who cleaned our room. She always had a smile and a cheerful hello. Our junior suite overlooking the port had a balcony and was stunning. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was superb, with a walk-in rainfall shower, and the toiletries were fabulous. There was a coffee machine with espresso pods, a kettle, instant coffee, and teabags. We brought our own milk and kept it in the fridge, and fresh bottled water was provided daily. The large-screen TV had some English channels, which was a bonus, but the volume was much too loud and couldn’t be adjusted to a comfortable level. It also switched on automatically whenever we entered the room, which seemed unnecessary. We booked half board, though in hindsight I’d have chosen breakfast only. The evening buffet had a good variety and was well cooked, but the food was only just warm enough to eat. The freshly cooked meat and fish were the best hot options. We also ate at the a la carte restaurant a couple of times and really enjoyed it. I can’t think of many downsides and would definitely recommend the hotel for a city break. If I could suggest improvements, I’d ask them to fix the TV so it’s not just loud or mute 😂, and to replace the plastic balcony chairs with something more fitting for a room of that standard.
