Dunas Mirador Maspalomas

The animation team were the one real bright spot. They were entertaining and professional, and the children especially loved the mini disco. The rest of our New Year's stay was extremely disappointing, nowhere near what we expect from a 4-star resort, especially at the same price as genuine 4-star places we've stayed in this region many times. The property is very large, but there was no bell service, so we had to carry our own luggage long distances on arrival and departure. The room felt old and poorly maintained, with inadequate lighting, peeling paint and a leaking shower. A deposit was required for beach towels, and we couldn't exchange them during the week without paying an extra cleaning fee, which seems unreasonable at a beach resort. The hotel advertises all-inclusive, but the kids club wasn't included, which felt misleading. The buffet was very subpar, with limited choice, unappetizing food and frequent dirty dishes. Most concerning, we saw cockroaches. Restaurant service was mediocre at best, with staff often seeming irritated rather than welcoming. Drinks came only in plastic cups. The pool was advertised as heated but was freezing cold, and all the rules for using it made the experience restrictive and unpleasant. We made a formal complaint after a receptionist literally threw the towel cards at me. There was no apology or effort to acknowledge the issue or put things right. The resort's 4-star rating certainly wasn't reflected in our experience, and I'm not sure where those stars come from.

We'd recommend this hotel, even after the fire alarm went off three times in a row around 3:30 in the morning and once at 19:30. Management gave no information or comment, which we found strange, and our six-year-old daughter was frightened each time. This was our third visit. It's a nice bungalow-style hotel, the food was quite okay, and the staff were very friendly. The entertainment staff in particular were nice and fun.

It's just a lovely place to stay. The hotel spaces are immaculate and the staff are amazing. Food in the adults-only area is divine, and it's pretty damn good elsewhere in the hotel too. Every meal and snack was delicious, hard to fault even for a real food snob like me. It's a bit crap outside, but why would you want to leave?
