Hostal La Palma

The town centre spot is good for people watching, but the cocktails were dreadful. There was no menu or pricing, just a list read out by the waiter. When they arrived, there was no effort in them and no enjoyment either. At €9 each, that was really disappointing. This was the only letdown we had in Menorca.

The service was fine, and the Cava Sparkling Rose was excellent. The rest of the food was average at best, though the Garlic Prawns were dreadful. They came on a cold plate, and some ends of the prawns were still very cold. I expected sizzling hot prawns in garlic, and these were the worst Garlic prawns I've had. I wouldn't recommend eating here. It seems to be relying on its location. I hadn't read the reviews beforehand, but if I had, I would have avoided it. There are plenty of nice restaurants in the side streets. After that disappointment, we cheered ourselves up with lovely ice cream at Ricardo Riera, just up a side street. Excellent.

The setting is perfect, but we left without ordering because the waiter was so rude and unwelcoming. He huffed behind us as we sat down and slammed the menus down. When we asked for a cocktail menu and then a drinks menu, he immediately said “no” both times. I don't know if it was because we wanted a drink in the sunshine or because we were English, but we certainly didn't feel welcome. We visited on a day trip, and the location was the only good thing about the restaurant.

We spent well over €150 on lunch with our family, and the meal ended on a sour note. The glass of rosé was oxidized, so we sent it back promptly, but it was still on the bill and the waiter rudely refused to remove it. The food wasn't anything special, and the tables are uncomfortably close together. Poor staff attitude ruined the end of our holiday lunch.
