The booking platform refunded my cancellation fee after learning what happened, and said it would stop working with these owners because they were damaging its reputation. I’d booked a week in August through the platform and got a confirmation email. The next day, the owner said stays had to run Saturday to Saturday and asked me to change the dates. I was willing, but he told me I had to cancel and book again. Since cancellation would cost me a fee, I asked them to cancel it themselves. For days they said it was canceled, though it still appeared as booked in my account. Eventually, he said they had just been told they’d be renovating and closed in July and August, so they weren’t accepting bookings then. After I got fed up and canceled, the platform called and told me the owner had misled me. They said he wanted me to cancel so he wouldn’t have to pay the penalty, and that he really wanted to raise the price. They called the owners unscrupulous crooks. If you can, book somewhere else and spare yourself the hassle.

I booked three nights for August 2024 and got an immediate confirmation from the accommodation, followed by another confirmation or reminder email a week before the trip. After driving 700 kilometers, we arrived in Cantabria and were told they had no record of the booking and the apartment was occupied. They offered no compensation or alternative and took no responsibility. Their apartments still show as available on many websites. I can’t know whether they had my reservation and then accepted another one they preferred during high season, but that’s obviously what I suspect. After a whole year of work, arriving for the long-awaited holiday and being stranded without a bed 700 km from home is about the worst thing that can happen. I’m posting this wherever I can so it doesn’t happen to someone else. **RESPONSE TO YOUR COMMENT**: You listed the accommodation on booking platforms, I paid, and shortly afterward you sent me a confirmation. Don’t blame the platform. It was the accommodation owner who issued the confirmation, not the platform. Whether the platform charges you a lot or a little is none of my concern. I booked Apartamento Los Solares de Mogro for available dates and received your confirmation. I’ve attached the confirmation document to this comment. You showed very little consideration for your guests. We reserved and paid, then arrived to find the apartment occupied and were left stranded. We demand a solution to a problem caused by you, and only you.

The owners were super friendly and welcoming, and we had a very good impression of Cantabria when we left at the end of August. The apartment was tidy, very clean, and had everything needed for a few days. We used the barbecue without any trouble. The pool is fantastic, and although it isn’t right at the apartments, it’s under a three-minute walk away. Highly recommended, thanks!

We were two families with children and stayed in the two upper-floor apartments, which were fully equipped. The owners live in a nearby house with an indoor pool that guests can use, and they were very friendly. We picked the place because it’s only 10 minutes from Santander and close to other attractions like San Vicente Barquera, Comillas, and Cabarceno. The weather kept us from using the garden barbecue. WE WILL RETURN.
