It looks like a great place at first, but up close it’s really dirty. There were stains everywhere, and the cutlery hadn’t been washed, so I had to clean it all myself. The bottom of the cutlery bucket was filthy too, as the picture shows. The shower had a damp smell and mold on the curtain, and our bedding had burn marks.

I stayed in the attic room, which has a kitchen for cooking, a comfortable bathroom with a bathtub, and lovely views from the window right above the bed. The place is a traditional raised granary, or hórreo, with four different bedrooms, in the village of Miraflores de la Sierra. It’s beautiful and highly recommended, though you might find similar options for a little less.

The apartment is spacious, has heating and hot water, and comes with its own parking. The house also has a distinctive character, and the location is a highlight. For five stars, it would need more kitchenware and a bigger TV. We also found dust in the corners, and the cutlery was stained, apparently from its storage rack, which was rusty underneath. I hope they take these comments as constructive criticism and make some improvements, as other guests have raised similar points.

We stayed three nights in the attic room and had a great time. The owners are friendly, and there’s a cleaning service in the mornings. The bed was really comfortable, and the kitchen had all the utensils we needed. We even used the TV’s USB port to watch our shows and films. The rooms are rustic and the place isn’t fancy, but it’s ideal for a few days in the mountains and feels like home.

The location is very good and it’s really quiet. We had a great stay last year, but this time the cleanliness left a lot to be desired.
