Amadores Beach Club

The night of April 25th, my family of four, my wife, her parents, and I, took night shift Taxi #46 from Puerto Rico to our accommodation at the Riu Vistamar Hotel. One person had an upset stomach after taking anti-diarrhea tablets and accidentally passed wind in the car. About five minutes into the ride, the driver became aggressive, put us out on a dark, dangerous stretch of Avenida de la Cornisa, and left us there. He then made a dangerous U-turn, drove down the wrong side of the road, and spat from the window, hitting my wife. It was a frightening and serious incident. I contacted the Taxi Cooperative President, Aythamy. He said in writing that they had traced the vehicle and identified the driver, but refused to give me the driver's name, citing "data protection." He also advised that passengers should film their entire taxi journeys in case they are attacked. An honest person from the local taxi community helped us get the registration, 4956LBP, for a Toyota Prius Plus. Most taxi drivers and businesses here are fantastic, honest professionals, including the person who helped us. Still, because of this one dangerous driver, we filed a formal criminal complaint with the Guardia Civil and SATE tourist police for coercion, reckless driving, and assault, bypassing the cooperative. The authorities are now legally requiring the cooperative to disclose his identity. For night journeys, protect your family by noting taxi numbers, tracking the trip by GPS, and going directly to the Guardia Civil if anything happens. We love visiting Amadores Beach Club & Spa. It's an incredible place that shows off the best of Gran Canaria, with a stunning atmosphere, top tier service from most of the staff, and breathtaking views over the water. Easily a 5 star destination, and one we'd recommend to anyone on the island. This incident completely overshadowed our otherwise fantastic time in the area.
