Aparthotel Puerto Plata

I had a balcony with a great view and spent every evening sitting out there to eat dinner. I was in an apartment right at the bottom, closer to town and the bus station. The room and linen were clean, and the rooms were cleaned during the stay. It was a pleasant visit, and I’d recommend it. I’ll return.

We were allowed to keep our apartment until the bus was collecting us at 4:30pm on checkout day. I understand that depends on whether they need to prepare it for another guest, so it probably varies by season. The location is fabulous, close to everything but far enough from the madness for some peace. The hills were a tough climb at first, though useful for working off all the good food. My boyfriend and I spent seven nights here last week in a self-catering studio. It was fabulous and spotlessly clean, with a kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, two single beds, a sofa, armchair, patio furniture and a clothes airer. Reception and bar staff were so friendly and helpful. We didn’t spend much time at the pool because we were busy exploring. I can’t say enough nice things about our stay at Puerto Plata. I’d recommend it to anyone without hesitation, and we’ll certainly return. Thanks for a wonderful, unforgettable holiday.

The main bars and other spots are a good 5 to 10 minutes away on foot, but it’s a steep hill, so we usually paid 3.50 euros for a taxi back. There’s no air conditioning, which made sleeping at night very uncomfortable. You could hire portable air-conditioning units for 70 euros a week, or a large fan for 20 or 30, and I regret not doing that. The apartment was clean and fairly decent, though it could use a refresh. The pool was good and had comfortable sunbeds, and it was easy to get one without a big battle like at some hotels I’ve stayed in. For a cheap place, you get what you pay for, so I can’t really complain. It was a good stay overall, and I’d return.

The pool has no food or drinks, and there’s no supermarket, so we used the pool and supermarket next door at Montebello. The room was good, with a great view, and was cleaned regularly, with the bed made and towels changed. The staff were very helpful, especially Antonio.
