Hotel Riviera Vista

We were there in early September and found the hotel and resort very quiet. The weather was sunny every day, around 30°C, and buses ran often to Puerto de Mogan in about 15 minutes, as well as to Playa de Amadores, Puerto Rico and beyond. There’s a small town centre a short walk away over a moderate hill, with a few restaurants, a Spar, a pizzeria and two bars. We’d definitely come back. Although it’s a budget hotel listed as three star and had mixed reviews, we were pleasantly surprised by the facilities. Our junior suite had a roomy lounge, a comfortable bedroom, a great shower and a double-width balcony. The reception is spacious, with seating. Breakfast had a good spread of continental items as well as hot food, including eggs, bacon, beans, hash browns and, oddly, mini hot dog sausages. Dinner was a buffet, nicely presented, with more of a continental than UK selection. There are big sun decks with plenty of loungers and umbrellas, all looking out to sea. The pool is beside a small bar serving drinks and light meals until about 6pm. A private lift from the pool goes straight to the beach, so you can skip the hill and road. There’s also a gym and spa, though we didn’t get to try them. Recommended.

The location worked well for the places we visited, and the rooms were nice. Reception staff were welcoming and helpful, but service elsewhere could be frustrating. We speak very good English and some Spanish, yet a few staff seemed annoyed when we ordered food and sometimes ignored us, even though we were polite. We’re from Türkiye, and some of us have darker skin. We experienced racism from staff and other guests. The hotel feels geared towards people who want a very quiet stay, families with small children, or older people. It didn’t suit young people. We weren’t allowed to play with an inflatable ball in the pool or on the grass after some older guests complained. Food was disappointing. We had dinner once, and paella was the only good part. Breakfast was neither particularly bad nor good, while the pool food was surprisingly better than the restaurant's. There were also lots of pricing rules: an extra towel cost 15 euros, the safe was 5 euros a day, and using the phone for anything other than reception cost 2 euros. We couldn’t take the water bottle we’d bought at breakfast back to our room, or take coffee mugs or juice. For the prices, it didn’t live up to expectations.

The pool and the view are lovely, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The place is filthy, with grime throughout the hotel and rooms, and ants and bugs all over. Rooms are cleaned only once a week, and we were given just one towel for the whole week. They don’t tell you that online. Want another towel? It costs £5 each. If cleanliness isn’t a priority for you, maybe you’d be okay with it. The hotel sits up a huge, steep hill, so it would be a nightmare if you have a disability or can’t walk far. There’s no food or nightlife nearby, and it feels isolated. Really disappointing. Please read this before booking. It’s no more than a two-star place.

We’d definitely come back. The location was amazing, and the pool bar had great prices. The pool area was comfortable, with plenty of loungers and lovely views, though the decking needs work. My son in law could build some stronger new decking there! We had a fantastic two-bedroom apartment with a well-equipped kitchen. A lovely, helpful gentleman checked us in, and Aidi, the pool boy, deserves a special mention for being so pleasant and helpful. x
