Marina Suites

The hotel seems to be just about the only one right on the sea, and the staff and setup are clearly trying hard. The pool gave me a slightly odd image of apes clinging to a rock face. Breakfast was good, though the restaurant was overpriced. I was impressed by the Avis booking terminal in reception, where you can book your own car. But Avis won’t deliver the car to the hotel because they don’t want to pay the parking charge. Avis, sort that out.

The breakfast buffet may be the best I’ve seen, and the pool area is lovely with a beautiful sea view, though the chairs are set very close together. The hotel sits in the marina, looking out over Puerto Rico and the sea. Staff were extremely professional and friendly, service was excellent, and the cleaning was very good. We had a comfortable, relaxed stay and would love to visit again. The only small downside was the neighbouring shipyard, which can be noisy and smelly on weekdays during the day.

I’m here now for a birthday treat, and there’s one policy I can’t make sense of: the hotel charges to use the room safe. Reception told me it was “hotel policy” but didn’t explain why. I’m not using it because I don’t want to pay an extra fee. I’ve stayed in lots of hotels and have never had to pay for an in-room safe before. I’d appreciate an explanation from management or the owner, because I can’t see a logical reason for the charge.

The room was noisy from the corridor, and our window wouldn’t shut all the way, which didn’t help. I also think the safe should be included in the room price. Still, we had a brilliant seven-night stay in December. The pool was incredible and easily the best part, especially for an early swim while watching the sunrise. Breakfast was nice and had a good selection. Carmen was so friendly and brilliant, our favourite waitress. The location is great, and I’d recommend the hotel to others.
