We loved the setting, especially the sunset, landscape, and beach views from up high, and how close it was to the Europa centre. The walk down to the beach follows a steep winding road, then you have to climb back up. I enjoyed doing it a few times, but once the heat reached 30°C and with two kids, we switched to taxis after a few days. They were only €5-6 each way. A taxi to or from the airport was about €75 each way. We had a budget-friendly stay in late October to early November. The hotel was busy but not too busy, and check-in was quick enough. We hadn't known about the €100 deposit per room, payable by card only. The rooms were nice enough and cleaned almost every day. I think the sheets and towels were changed three times over seven days, which was good. WiFi was only available at reception, not in the rooms, by the pool, or in the restaurant. The pool and its area were cleaned each morning. The all-inclusive meals were great, with plenty to choose from and themed evenings including Italian, Canarian, English, Mexican, and Chinese. I loved the food every night. We had entertainment on four nights, and it was enough to get people enjoying themselves. It finished by 9 pm, food ended around 9 pm, and all-inclusive drinks stopped at 10:30. For a later night, the Europa centre is a short walk away, with reasonably cheap drinks and food, plus entertainment or sports until very late. The one thing I missed at the hotel was a little light music around the pool and bar.

Food was lovely and hot, with something for everyone, though there was no soup in the evenings. Europe centre is easy to reach for drinks, food, music, and dancing as long as you like. It's a fab, small, quiet resort, with entertainment three times during the week and nothing in the daytime. Sometimes music plays through the speakers, depending on who's at the bar. Elvis is one of the best, a happy worker who keeps holiday spirits up at the bar. It closes at 10:30, and after that you can't buy a drink because everything's shut and there are no staff. That's a shame.

Puerto Rico itself was amazing, and we'll come back to the area, but we'll do our research to avoid another stay like this. The hotel was one of the worst we've experienced. We couldn't eat the food day after day, and ended up spending extra money on meals out. It was repetitive, the same thing each day. Dinner leftovers seemed to be reused in something else the next day. Food was always cold, whether we came on time or later, and it was either burnt from overcooking or too hard from being undercooked. The bar was appalling, really just a counter with drinks on a shelf behind it and very limited choices, including only one beer. It closed at 10:30, so there was no drink available after that. During our 11-night stay, there was entertainment only twice, though it was supposed to be on. On arrival, security told us there were sides A and B and that we had to stay on side A. They didn't say it was the quiet side. The two pools were so small that more than five people left no room to move. There were also rules posted in the apartment and bathroom about what you could and couldn't do. Music by the pool or in the apartment wasn't allowed, even at low volume. None of this was on the website when we booked. Given our experience here with my partner, I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

Gran Canaria was great, and the hotel is near a nice beach, but I wouldn't stay here again. Most of the staff were rude, especially the woman at checkout. We asked to change rooms because of damp and a window that wouldn't shut, and were charged 30 euros just to move. Our new room wasn't cleaned once for the rest of the holiday, and we got no fresh towels either. One waiter and the chef were nice, but another male waiter was rude. One night they'd left cereal out for dinner. Our three-year-old wanted some, so we let him, but the waiter came over and told us off.

The place was spotlessly clean and the staff were friendly. Check-in was at 3, which seemed strange since we arrived at 11. They said we could leave our luggage in an unlocked room at reception. When we eventually checked in, the process was quick. You can opt for all-inclusive, and there are two pool areas.
