Hotel Calasanz

The restaurant got packed at lunch and dinner, apparently drawing people from all over, and the food and drinks we tried were excellent. The goat cheese salad and, at the time, the Special hamburger with a gin and tonic were great after weeks in Europe. Jorge, the waiter, and the receptionist were both extremely helpful. We stayed almost a week in Oct 2013. There are only 20 rooms, with an elevator and a secure parking garage. The train station is a three minute walk, giving easy access to Barcelona. The street is busy, but it gets very quiet after 10PM. We found the place accommodating, friendly, and well located for Barcelona and nearby tourist destinations. We would stay again.

The staff were friendly, reception was open 24 hours, and I could get freshly made cappuccino in the morning. There was also great radio in the room. I arrived around 11:30pm for a business trip and found out the receptionist's system showed my booking as cancelled, though I hadn't cancelled it. It wasn't a big deal, and I had a room ten minutes later. The room I got may have been small because of the booking issue. Even with a hand-luggage-sized suitcase, there wasn't room to leave it open without blocking the way. The bathroom was tiny too. The shower was okay, but its entrance was right beside the toilet, leaving little room to get in or out, especially when wet and slippery. The bed had a wool blanket instead of proper bed linen, which I don't personally like; I prefer normal linen. It was okay for three nights, but I won't book again. I'll stay at the Ibis nearby.

The station is just a block away, so the location is very convenient for train travel. The rooms were small, but the staff were excellent, really friendly and helpful. There's a nice restaurant at the hotel.

A really cosy, beautiful place to eat.
