Hotel Montero

Angeles and Jose looked after every little detail and were so attentive and helpful, they really made us feel at home. The place was spotless and tidy, everything worked, and our comfortable bedroom had awesome views from the windows. The kitchen was still closed, but Angeles made us breakfast anyway. The coffee was some of the best we’ve had on the Camino!

We ended up needing an extra night because of an illness on the camino, and the hosts were incredibly accommodating. The building and yard were gorgeous, and the full kitchen was just right. We also loved the bizcocho and drinks at the cafe. Such great hospitality, and a lovely stop close to the main plaza.

After a day of more than 50k of cycling, with lots of climbs in very warm weather, we arrived just after noon exhausted and overheated. The staff at Restaurante Montero Mondenedo greeted us kindly, brought cold drinks, and even found us a bowl of potato chips, exactly what we’d been craving for miles. The room was clean, the beds really comfortable, and breakfast was generous enough to set us up for another long ride. My husband and I were cycling the Camino del Norte, and this was one of our overnight stops. We’re grateful for the staff’s hospitality.

We hadn’t planned to stop yet on our Camino in July '23, but the afternoon heat got to us as we came up the road. The place turned out to be a fantastic find, with very clean amenities that seemed almost new. The staff understood what peregrinos need and were friendly. The kitchen worked well, and a vending machine beer tasted especially good that day. More than a year later I stumbled across a post on fb and knew this was the place.
