Hostal Mont-Rock

The location is amazing, right by Mont rock, with lovely nature walks nearby. The rock is really a cliff, and it’s small and friendly, with lots of cats. I shared two rooms with my family. Both were nice, though one had a big TV and the other a very small one. The service was friendly and excellent, and the showers were nice, but I expected shampoo to be provided. There’s a nice bar, great chicken, and lovely sandwiches. In the morning they mostly serve sandwiches, often with tomato bread, which isn’t my favorite. I asked for bread without tomato the next morning and they did it, so the service was very good. Good rooms, too. This is one of my favorite locations.

Even though they were clearly slammed when we arrived at peak lunchtime, the staff apologized and said a table would be ready in 20 minutes. We had a drink, and it was ready in 10. I wasn’t staying at the hotel, just there for lunch, and the menu del dia was possibly the best I’ve had at any price. At €15.50 it was great value, with generous portions and everything homemade and really good quality. I had fresh artichokes followed by veal stew, both excellent. Most of the desserts were homemade too, and the wine was OK. The service was great despite how busy they were. With the beautiful view of a fairly popular tourist attraction, I was pleasantly surprised by the food, value, and atmosphere. Highly rated, thanks chicos!

Everyone was very friendly to this idiot Englishman. I didn’t see the tapas in the bar at 8pm, so I was glad I walked into town. The room was fine, clean, everything worked, and the water was hot. Most of all, I was out of the rain, which had been my biggest concern. I struggled because I don’t speak Spanish, and that’s entirely my fault. The boss, Johnathan, is great and speaks English, but he’s the only one and isn’t around much. This isn’t really a criticism, more a caution, though I suppose it is a criticism of myself.

Downstairs is the restaurant, where the staff were very rude to me and my family. They handed us a menu rudely and wouldn’t serve us. I looked the server in the eyes twice, but he still didn’t come over to take our order. Maybe it was because I’m a foreigner here from the U.S.A. The owner of the hostel was very nice, and the room for three people was large. The rooms were simple but clean.
