Hotel Xauen

The bed was old, with metal legs, and there was water damage on the shower-cabin wall that needed repair. The hot water also went off briefly. For this price, I expected more, though it would be fine if you're not after luxury. Maybe they'll renovate in 2025. The location is perfect, and some rooms have great views. Breakfast is simple but fine, with a lovely mountain view from the restaurant. The spa is nice, but the jacuzzi is part of the same pool, so its water isn't any hotter than the pool as I expected. The pool area could use improvements. There are no hotel slippers, which you'd expect at a hotel spa these days, so you have to buy some there for a few euros.

They kept part of our money after we cancelled, calling it "administration fees." If you make a mistake while booking, they treat you like you're incompetent and blame you for not doing things "the proper way." Neither my partner nor I could find anyone willing to help. Be warned, the staff are some of the rudest I've encountered in a long time. We're taking our stay elsewhere.

We had trouble dropping our bags at the hotel because the square outside was being dug up for at least two weeks, and the hotel hadn't told us. The location is good, but communication was poor. The room was okay, though small, and the bathroom facilities were poor. The wall between our tiny room and the next-door bathroom was thin, so we could hear every noise. Neither the basin nor bath had a plug, leaving us to use the shower, which was badly clogged and sprayed water everywhere.

The breakfast was great, and the view from our room was fantastic. But the room was a real disappointment in an otherwise great hotel: it was old, the beds were small, and I could feel every spring. Flushing the toilet caused a loud hissing noise that lasted 3-4 minutes, and I could hear it through two doors.
