Casa Roán

We were picked up at the bar in Eirexe and brought back there the next morning, which made things easy. After a long walk, having a bath in a clean, comfortable room was a real plus. The place is historic, and I believe the same family has been running it for five generations. The food was easily the best of our eight day trip. One of my favourite places to stay on this Camino, and I’d highly recommend it.

The driver in the taxi van had me feeling like I was riding shotgun in a rally car. Apparently the older driver must be Ken Block’s uncle. Inside, the atmosphere was a full 10/5, like I might be knighted by King Arthur and invited to the round table. The beds were clean, and there were drawers for stacking things, though the room only gets 4.5/5 from me: the tub was slippery, and its glass screen let water out during showers. Service was 4/5. The host seemed low on energy, but there were lots of guests and he was also tending all the chickens.

I had one of my best dinners here, and the restaurant was delicious. You can watch the food being made through the view into the kitchen. The hotel has a rustic feel, and the room we had was spacious. They even provided me with a shower chair. It used to be two 18th-century farmhouses, and they offer pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago a free shuttle. I believe pilgrims are their main guests. A great hotel for a Camino stop, and if you get the chance to stay, you won’t regret it.

After a day walking the Camino, this was a lovely place to spend the night. The property has plenty of outdoor space where we could sit in the sun or have a drink from the bar in the afternoon. Our room was comfortable, and the family who own the hotel gave us warm hospitality. The generous servings of home-cooked food were delicious.
