Camping Gran Sol

A nice place to camp. On Monday and Tuesday, the restaurant food was great, and the three-course meal with wine and water was just 13€. On Thursday, it cost 16€, and both the food and service were really lacking. They're closed on Wednesday, so I think the regular staff also have Thursday off.

It was fairly quiet despite being beside a main road, so that wasn't a concern. There's a back gate leading to a pleasant walk through fields to the nearby village, though the main town is probably too far to reach on foot for most people. Quite a few pitches seemed reserved for annual campers, which made finding a spot challenging even in the off-season. The facilities are dated and only just passably clean, though there was plenty of hot water. The WiFi was hopeless, which seems absurd in 2025. Overall, an average camping spot.

The staff member who helped us sort things out was friendly and patient, but almost as soon as my wife and I arrived last weekend, we were unhappy with our choice. We had a reservation and were told someone would come help us choose a pitch. It quickly became clear there were only two spots available, and little thought had been given to our booking. We squeezed between two other families and felt crowded in, with more than 85% of the sites seemingly taken by long-term campers. Short-term visitors don't seem to be a priority. The photo shows just how cramped it was. The whole campground also felt rundown. The online photos don't match what we found, as the grill photo shows. Most facilities haven't been renovated, half the pool chairs were broken, and the shower house water had a strange smell. The pool is open to people from the neighboring community, so it was packed all the time. Our pitch was beside a farmer's field, and when it was windy, as it often was, the stay became unpleasant. The farmer cut the grass and it blew onto our tent, then kept watering the field, with the wind carrying water onto our tent too. On the last day, the tent and our car were soaked, so we couldn't pack up. The families beside us had the same problem. We asked the staff if they could do anything, but they couldn't help.

Most of the guests are regulars, which gives the campground a warm feel, and the staff and other campers were all very friendly and kind. The pool and sanitary facilities were great, no complaints. I'd like to come back when I'm heading south.
