Mas Postius

We stayed at Mas Postius and had a memorable time. Elena and her husband own the place and live there, and they were wonderful hosts. Elena cooked several excellent meals for us, including duck with pears, pig cheeks with black trumpet mushrooms, and fish paella. We ate at Mas Postius several times instead of going to local restaurants because the food was so good. The house is a large, beautifully restored farmhouse rather than a typical hotel, with quaint rooms on a hill at 900 metres and lovely pastoral views. The place feels genuinely Catalan, and Catalan or Spanish are spoken. I enjoyed birdwatching and taking in the countryside along the many trails crossing the property. Getting there means taking a narrow paved road through pine and oak woods. Follow the hosts' directions: if you're on bumpy dirt roads, you're not on the easiest route. For a genuine Catalan experience away from the usual tourist track, I’d recommend it.

Dinner is available and inexpensive. The property is beautiful, though the rooms vary: some are nice, while others are simple and have shared bathrooms. If you’re driving from Barcelona, take the north route. Don’t follow the Google Maps directions.

The food was delicious, and although the rural Catalunya menu is mostly meat, they were always willing to make me a little vegetarian miracle. The hosts are lovely local artisans, and they told us restoring the place took 10 years. It’s a family-run business with carefully tended gardens looking out toward the Pyrenees, and lovely details in every corner. The masia is a gem of traditional rural Catalan architecture. There are two ways to drive there. The route via Moià is better suited to a 4x4, while the one via Vic works well for any car in any season. Coming from Barcelona, go through Vic, take the C-25 toward Manresa, then follow the signs for L'Estany / Santa Maria de Riuprimer.

The setting at Mas Postius is amazing, and the atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. The hotel is really nice, and the people there are the best. They’re always thinking about how to help you enjoy your time.
