We had a relaxing few days of Spanish sun in February at Casa Daniela Strawberry Greens, while visiting the Hacienda golf resort near Murcia. It was a solid choice for a winter break, and the owners were genuinely kind. The apartment has plenty of room, with 2 bedrooms, a spacious living room that could also be used as another bedroom, a separate kitchen, and a lovely glass winter terrace with a dining table and a sofa for 4. From the terrace you can look straight out over the green, well-maintained golf course, a pleasant view even if you don’t golf. The resort’s several pools were quiet and accessible during our stay. The nearest beach is about 15 minutes away by car, so it’s easy to add some coastline to a resort stay. Murcia’s winter weather was genuinely enjoyable. Good value for a laid-back sunny getaway in winter. We’d come back.
If you’re considering buying property in Spain, get a good lawyer first and go over exactly where and what you’re buying, plus the full cost of taxes, council tax, and fees. You may already know the property’s price, but you need to know every other expense too. Don’t put down a deposit or sign a contract before doing that, even if you’ve found your dream place. Your estate agent won’t tell you all this, because they just want to sell. Get the costs upfront or it could get very expensive, and you may not get your deposit back.
You don’t have to be here to chase a score under par. I came for a peaceful week away from the English heights, and I’d recommend it for families with kids, groups of friends, serious golfers, or anyone on their own who needs a break. You do need a car. There’s so much to see in the lovely area, with places a mere 20 minutes away in every direction. The clubhouse and Cafe bar are a good time. The lager might not be fizzy enough, and the Guinness not creamy enough, for Brits wanting a taste of home, but happy hour is half price on certain days, and there are local drinks to try if you want to explore the Spanish side. Gorgeous views, beautiful plants, and dreamy sunsets.
We thought this was the best course we’d played in the region, both for its condition and the challenge. It was in excellent shape from the tees right through to the greens. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
Really enjoyed playing here. The course was in great shape, with good tees, greens, and fairways, and the pace of play was fine. The bushes lining the fairways swallow up golf balls, though, so it’s hard to find yours. The clubhouse was a bit rundown, but okay.
