Iberostar Selection Playa de Muro Village

The hotel looks nice and is in a great location, but our stay was ruined by a severe ant infestation. We complained at reception every day. Staff sprayed the room, but the ants kept returning and were everywhere, including the wardrobes, bed, and ceiling. Staff acknowledged the hotel had a major ant problem, but we only got empty promises and no follow-up. There was no compensation for the serious inconvenience either. After we got home, I sent a formal complaint and heard nothing until I followed up several times. Management eventually replied that insects were to be expected because the hotel is close to nature. Iberostar seems to use the same copy-paste response for every negative review. I'd recommend choosing a hotel chain that actually supports guests when problems come up.

The hotel was fine, with a good buffet and a nice beach. The hot tub was cold, and they never mailed my postcards. I left 10+ at reception with postby.me stamps, which might have been a scam, who knows. The receptionist checked them over, saw the stamps, and said there'd be no problem mailing them. It's been 3 months, and not one postcard has arrived.

The restaurant gets very busy and seems to get really hot, as it doesn't appear to have air conditioning. The food is very good with lots of options, but the kids' corner doesn't have plastic bowls or cutlery, so bring your own. Breakfast coffee is awful. There's a coffee machine in the room, but the cleaners don't replace the pods, so we keep having to ask reception. Our family room is spacious and modern, with a very comfortable super king bed, a large balcony, a sofa bed, two wardrobes, and a lovely shower. There's no bath, which is hard with young children, though we did request a baby bath in advance. It also has a microwave, which seems unnecessary without a kitchenette. The staff are very nice and the hotel is in a good location. We chose a room in the family area after reading that rooms nearer the hotel center were noisy in the evenings. Our baby goes to bed early, but our room backs onto the kids club, so it's noisy during the day. There's an indoor play area by the restaurant with old, broken toys and a small climbing frame. Staff don't monitor it, so older kids take over. The indoor pool is handy on cloudy days, but the water is cold, even in the jacuzzi. The outdoor pools are freezing too, the sea is warmer, so nobody uses them, which is a shame because they look lovely.

I'm a big hotel sceptic, but this place has changed my mind. Our 6yr old girl loved every second. The entertainment team were some of the kindest, most fun people, and looked after the kids like their own. They get children on stage and involved in everything. Every staff member was exceptional, and nothing seemed too much trouble. We upgraded to a family suite. It was pricey, but well worth it. The food is good, and the pools are great. It's a proper family hotel, so if you don't have kids, it probably isn't for you. But if you do, it's a safe bet. It's our last night, and all I can say is that it's been amazing.
