Camping Bungalows Rio Jerte

We planned one night after a long drive from southern Portugal in temperatures over 40°, but ended up staying four. Could have stayed all summer! The site sits by the river in the Jert valley, and we had a lovely pitch overlooking it. The water was crystal clear and full of fish. Watching Spanish families, grandmas, mums, dads and kids happily playing in the river all day was lovely. For me, this was proper camping, and I can't fault the site. The food and sangria were delicious, and Fatima and the other staff were brilliant and very helpful. I'll definitely be back, hopefully with my kids and grandchildren. The restaurant is a real highlight. The food was excellent, especially the superb meat from the family farm. The valley is beautiful and good for walking in the hills, and when we visited in early June it was cherry-picking season. The facilities were clean and functional, with shady pitches. As other reviewers have mentioned, the rows of caravans that seem to be parked almost permanently make parts of the site look a little like a shanty town. Don't let that put you off.

We spent four nights in our motorhome. The site is well placed in a beautiful valley for walking and cycling, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the toilets were spotless, five stars to the cleaners. My only downside was that the water in the toilets and sinks was warm rather than hot. A hot shower is always welcome when it's cold outside, especially as the toilet block isn't heated.

Being surrounded by cherry trees was lovely, and I bought 1kg for euro. Jerte nearby is lovely too, and the swimming pool was superb. A few sun loungers might be nice. The pitches may feel a little tight, but don't let that put you off. The staff were lovely, and the bar staff were happy to put the Football on for us. A wonderful site, and a must if you're in the Area.
