La Antigua Tahona

We had a lovely few days in the Jerte Valley, with the river, orchards, cherry trees, and olive groves all around us. The apartments were fantastic, and it was easy to visit Piornal up in the valley as well as Cabezuela, Navaconcejo, and Plasencia below. We also went on several hikes through the beautiful countryside. A real treat, and we'll be back.

The cabins beside the Jerte River are beautiful, and the campsite itself is lovely. Everyone on staff was very friendly. I'll definitely come back.

The best part for us was having direct access from the patio to one of the finest natural pools in the valley. La Antigua Tahona also has a lovely garden for family time or barbecues, plus a designated parking area. You can hear the river as you fall asleep and blackbirds singing in the morning, with greenery and water all around. The house is comfortable and well equipped, in a great setting at the foot of the Valle road. It's easy to reach, and Navaconcejo is only a kilometer away, about a ten-minute walk along the La Cañada del Jerte cattle track. Isi knows the valley inside out and gave us useful tips. Peñi was attentive to every detail and even lent us a canoe, and her brother gave us a basket of tomatoes and grapes. The apples were delicious too. We had a luxurious weekend and will definitely return. Kira, our Bodeguero dog, had a great time as well.

The owners and their family were so hospitable that after six wonderful nights, all I can do is thank them. It's also a great base for swimming holes and hiking, or just unwinding and listening to the river at night. I'd almost like to say something bad so fewer people find the place, but I can't.
