Hotel Riu Monica - Adults Only

After about ten visits, this was the first year we had an issue with our room. The patio door wouldn’t lock and was near outdoor stairs, which could have been a security risk. We were moved quickly, but the next room had been adapted for disabled guests and didn’t suit able-bodied guests: the shower was fixed very low, and the sparsely designed bathroom had nowhere to put toiletries. We got a very good room the following day. The hotel is just outside town, with an easy walk to all the shops and bars. The beach is right on the doorstep, and the pool area overlooking the sea is lovely. The poolside café is reasonably priced, and the staff there are very helpful and friendly. The indoor pool is a great addition. It would be fantastic if the outdoor pool were heated in winter too. There’s always plenty of food, although the main restaurant has more of a canteen feel and can get loud with all the clattering plates. They’re feeding a lot of people, though, so you won’t go hungry. The speciality restaurant is a nice change and costs no extra, but its menu hasn’t changed in years, and the quality of main courses can be hit and miss. The food is better in the main restaurant. This year’s evening entertainment was the best we’d seen.

We were lucky to get an upgrade on our last visit, and the room was lovely. Thanks so much. At the Monica, there’s plenty to choose from at breakfast and dinner, and drinks are very reasonably priced. It’s our favourite hotel in Nerja, and another wonderful stay. Everyone works so hard, from the cleaners who are always busy to the cheerful, helpful reception team and the polite, happy restaurant and bar staff. We can’t wait to come back in April.

The buffet breakfast and dinner offered plenty of choice, and most of it seemed to be made with fresh produce. Staff were always pleasant and helpful, and the hotel’s location close to Nerja Centro and the beach was perfect. The only small downside was hearing other guests talking through our room walls. They weren’t being loud, it seemed more to do with the echo and the thin walls. Overall, I’d recommend this lovely hotel and location, and I’d return.

On our return visit, we were pleased again. The food was excellent in both quality and presentation, with plenty of variety. Staff are friendly and helpful, and go out of their way to make sure we have a great time. Our room was cleaned every day and was spotless.
