Albergue de San Jose

The owner was kind, the beds were comfortable, and I liked the kitchen, terrace, and good coffee. After three weeks traveling around Spain and years of staying in hostels, I can say this was a GREAT place, the best hostel in all of Spain, and I mean that wholeheartedly. I only wish I’d stayed more nights. I plan to return.

The owner was hospitable, and the woman managing the cafe/bar was very pleasant. The food was good, and there was entertainment at dinner. Everything was clean, with several places to sit and relax. The location is excellent, an easy eight-minute walk to the beach and commercial area. One of the nicest hostels we stayed in.

For €17 a night for a bed, the price is hard to beat. It’s a super relaxing, quiet place in a very touristy town, with a tiny bar on the terrace and the town and beach within walking distance. Of course, it depends on what level of fancy you’re after, but I found it super nice.

This is very much a hostel, with just the basics, but they do those well. The facilities are clean, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. They understand English fairly well too. WiFi works in the common room, and there are fridges, microwaves, and kettles for guests to use. There’s no crockery or cutlery, though, so keep that in mind. It’s good for exploring the area, but not so good as a base for a two-week geology trip in Spain, since it’s hard to prepare decent food for the field.
