The location is great for visiting the Monasterio de Piedra, and we had a wonderful stay. Our room was clean and comfortable, the service was friendly and attentive, and breakfast was delicious. The bread was freshly baked, and they made the espresso just right. I’d recommend it.

We had the €16 menu, which came with an appetizer, entree, dessert, bread, and even a drink. I especially enjoyed the mixed salad, gazpacho, and flan. Amazing food, definitely recommended!

The location works well for the monasterio piedra, with a fantastic walk over the hills if that appeals to you. The food was great, and the accommodation was basic. Our room was small, hot, and needed refurbishment. All in all, it was okay for a two star hotel.

The food was good and the service was both quick and good. I’d give it five stars if it were a little cheaper, though I understand the menu price is normal for the area.

Nuevalos is a charming town, and the view of the reservoir, Embalse de la Tranquera, was breathtaking on the drive in. The Monasterio de Piedra was within easy walking distance, and we thought it was beautiful. We visited in December, when the pool, outside bar, tennis courts, and other facilities were closed. I imagine things are much busier in summer, with everything in bloom and more for families to do. We prefer quiet, so the off season suited us. After the first half of our trip in Valladolid, the countryside was a welcome change. Las Truchas has lovely country charm, comfortable spaces, and décor I really liked. There are several common areas for relaxing or gathering, too. We ate breakfast there every day and had dinner there a few times. The food was great. Tito’s croquetas de jamon were much better than the others we tried, crisp outside and full of flavor inside. We also had lovely toast with a light tomato spread and Iberian Ham carved tableside each day. I think it was called Pan con Tomate Jamon, or something close. On our last day we had Rabo de Toro (ox tail), which was like the juiciest, most tender, flavorful pot roast. We booked through AirBnB, after I found the hotel there, but I missed my chance to leave a review on AirBnB, which was my fault. I hope others see this and know what a great experience we had. Our host, Carmeline, was responsive and lovely to message with. My Spanish speaking friends couldn't join me because of COVID, so I was impressed by how willing everyone was to work through the language barrier, at Hotel Las Truchas and throughout our trip in Spain. Carmeline was modest about her English, but I understood her texts without trouble. Talking was fine too, mostly in their English with a little of my terrible Spanish. She's also fluent in French, which is an option for travelers. Hotel Las Truchas, and its proprietors Tito and Carmeline, gave us the best stay in Spain, and they were the NICEST people. The room was clean and comfortable, the water was HOT, and the rooms stayed at a nice temperature. They provided extra blankets and another space heater for anyone who wanted more warmth at night. The previous hotel had awful lukewarm showers, so the hot water was very welcome. If you're after a city, shopping, and nightlife, this may not be the spot. But for nice people, countryside, fresh air, and a relaxing getaway, Las Truchas was the best part of our Spain trip.
