El Retiro de Toledo

The house is clean, great for a group of ten, and well placed for visiting Toledo and Puy du Fou. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, and there’s a fun games room downstairs. We stayed over the October 12th long weekend. I’m giving it “only” three stars because I received the €180 deposit back just today, after repeated requests by phone and WhatsApp. At last, we got OUR deposit back.

The basement has another kitchen and living room, plus a brilliant playroom, and the bedrooms all have large, well-equipped bathrooms. The kids had a blast, and leaving was the only downside. We had to promise we’d come back! It’s a fantastic weekend spot with children, especially for the pool and barbecue.

We stayed here five years ago, and it’s nothing like it was then. This weekend was awful, and I wish we’d picked somewhere else. There was no hot water for showers, a real problem with small children along, and the pool water was dirty. It was overflowing too, so we kept slipping around it. There’s a hole in the garden area that one of the children fell into, which seems quite dangerous. The exterior and appliances had barely been cleaned. The owner’s neglect is a real shame, and I’m sure there were other things I’ve forgotten.

What a shame this place isn’t better looked after. The kitchen was very dirty, some appliances didn’t work properly, and the outside was filthy. It’s a spectacular house, with an amazing pool, barbecue, lots of bedrooms and a games room.
