Hotel Barreiro

The food and service were absolutely fabulous, I’d recommend it 100%. I’m definitely bringing my husband Ricky next time!

For a proper hot dinner between Betanzos and Hospital de Bruma, Hotel Barreiro is a great choice. There are basically no restaurants on that stretch, and Casa Avelina nearby only has sandwiches. Here the dinner menu is reasonably priced, good quality, and just right after a long day on foot. It’s a very convenient, restful stop for Camino Inglés pilgrims. The beds are comfortable, the rooms spotless, and the pool is a blessing after walking. Book directly and they’ll pick you up from Hospital de Bruma. The next morning, you can set off on the Camino right from the hotel door. I definitely recommend it.

The best part was the service. When someone in our group fell ill on the Camino, the hotel sent a car to pick her up at no charge. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful, with special thanks to Martín at reception. Hotel Barreiro is around 2 km off El Camino Inglés, but the detour was worth it. The rooms were reasonably priced and very clean, with comfortable beds. Dinner had plenty of choice and superb food, and the breakfast buffet was excellent too. Highly recommended.

The hotel’s service was top notch, and a quick walk back to the trail cuts off part of the route. It’s a nice walk, too. We’d recommend this place if you’re struggling to find somewhere to stay along the Camino. We hadn’t found accommodation on the Camino Ingles, so we tried this nearby hotel when they had a room. They sent a taxi to Casa Avelina, and it was included in the room price, a wonderful service for a hotel this far out. The room was clean and fine for the night, though a little old fashioned and worn. Pilgrims dine in a converted ballroom. The 14 euro dinner was excellent value, with three large courses, full sized starter, main, and dessert, plus wine and coffee. Breakfast was included with the pilgrim menu and served buffet style, with meats, cheeses, pastries, and cereal. There wasn’t any OJ that day, but there was plenty of pineapple juice. You could also order orange juice and other items in the hotel diner.
