Hotel Canaima

The rooms weren't particularly comfortable and seemed poorly maintained. We also found the reception rather indifferent, and got the sense that guests were an inconvenience instead of welcome visitors. Compared with the other hotels we stayed in on the Camino, this was one of the weaker stops. Hotel Restaurant Canayma in O Mesón do Vento is convenient for people walking the Camino Inglés, since there are very few places to stay within 5-10 km. A lot of pilgrims will probably need to spend a night here. The experience could be much better.

The team were really friendly, and dinner was very good. They can pick you up at the Camino Ingles finish and take you to the hotel. In the morning I had my favorite Spanish breakfast, tostada con tomate y cafe con leche. They also gave me a simple route to get back to the Camino. One of my best stays on the Camino Ingles.

It's a basic, no frills place around 30 minutes from Bruma on the Camino de Santiago. The owner is friendly and helpful, though he may take a little while to warm up. The lift feels scary, and expect road noise and no air conditioning.

The price changed back to 64 euros, and he insisted there would be no discount for the room without a lock. At first, he'd offered that room for 36 euros instead of 64 because it had no security. I was hiking with a group and called on behalf of a solo female traveler who didn't speak Spanish. On my first call, using my own voice, which sounds clearly feminine and young, I asked whether there was a room for one person. The man who answered said he was "booked up," then offered a room with no lock. Things got scary when he realized I wasn't alone. I started translating for the woman I was helping, and as soon as he heard the men in our group talking and heard us call the place an "albergue," the only word she understood, he completely snapped. He became incredibly aggressive and "blew up," yelling that his establishment is a HOTEL, not an albergue. WARNING, be extremely cautious of this establishment, especially if you're a single woman doing the Camino.
