Hotel Mabú

The staff were friendly, and the room was lovely, with a balcony and en-suite bathroom. Reception isn't open around the clock, so we couldn't check in before 3 pm. It took about half an hour to walk into the city, though taxis are very reasonably priced.

The hotel is close to the thermal baths and offers safe, free parking. The rooms are quite small but very clean, with good showers, and breakfast was simple and nice. Noise carries easily up through the building, and the excited Spaniards disturbed our sleep a bit. It isn't romantic, but it's affordable, adequate, and unpretentious. We had trouble finding it because the address on Booking. Com was wrong, and the one-way system around the area was interesting. Five stars for the staff: they were very friendly, and despite my poor Spanish and their poor English, we managed to communicate well.

We had booked three nights based on the positive reviews, but left after just one. The area was a dive, and I'm not even that fussy. What you see in the photos and read about the place just didn't match reality. The receptionist was also working in the bar, so we had to wait when we arrived. That wasn't her fault, and she was very friendly. I also didn't expect a hotel to have no laundry service. The directions we got to a nearby laundry place were inaccurate, and we ended up on a dodgy street, so we gave up.

A quiet hotel with great service and food, pretty close to the river and hot springs.
