Imi Hotel & Spa

My main reason for giving this one star is the fire safety. Every fire door I saw had a wooden wedge holding it open, which could let smoke move through the hotel and into the exit staircase in a fire. That feels like a serious safety concern. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, and parking was inexpensive in a private lot about a three-minute walk away. The rooms seemed old, perhaps because of the walls, even though the hotel itself is fairly new. Hall lights only come on when they detect movement, so leaving your room or the elevator into total darkness was unsettling. The spa cost extra, and its facilities felt like an ordinary hotel pool. Without the fire door issue, I'd have rated it three stars.

After our overseas flight to Madrid, we took the high-speed train here, and the spa at Imi hotel was just what we needed to loosen up before The Camino. The warm pool's bubbles, sauna, steam room, cold-water bucket, and hot shower jets made for a complete experience. Dinner in Old Town was easy to get to, and the hotel service was excellent. I agree with the comment that the bathroom could use more light.

We really enjoyed our stay in Ourense, especially the lovely spa, which we had all to ourselves. Breakfast was great, and there's a fantastic vegetarian restaurant next door called Shangri La. A wonderful place to rest while travelling to Santiago de compostella. I'd definitely recommend it.

Really good value, with friendly staff and a handy location. The sauna and pool were good too.
