The grilled croissants at breakfast are something we still remember fondly. Breakfast was included in the price, and those became our favorite part of the mornings. The staff made our 15 days in Montalvo feel special from the start, especially Luis and Manuel. They were warm and helpful, and their stories and adventures made our afternoons much more fun. The hotel is a little old, but it met our needs and gave us a very pleasant stay. We felt at home thanks to how attentive everyone was. We’d recommend it to anyone after a welcoming, authentic stay in Montalvo. Even with the distance, we won’t forget the breakfasts or the people who made this holiday so memorable. Thanks to all the team, particularly Luis and Manuel.

We could hardly have asked for a better location or warmer welcome. From our room, it was barely a minute on foot to the water, right on the beachfront. Thanks to señor Sixto, Luis, and señor Manuel for looking after us throughout. Their recommendations for places to visit were all spot on. At breakfast, señor Manuel shared stories from his travels around the world, and my children were fascinated by his adventures. The way everyone treated us felt like the closeness between people I remember from childhood, and made me feel at home at Hotel Sixto. The buildings are old, but they’re in good condition and clean. For a family like ours, the price was affordable. Some people may have higher standards, and I understand that, but Hilton or five-star places are there for that. I don’t think the very harsh reviews are fair, since they hurt the business. Luis also gave us three bottles of albariño wine from his own harvest on the day we left. We hope to have the same experience again next year. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!!!

The beds made it almost impossible to rest. They’re spring mattresses that you sink into, and we only managed to sleep from sheer exhaustion. We just wanted somewhere clean to rest, and this wasn’t it. At €130 a night, it felt like highway robbery when guesthouses cost less than half as much and offer better amenities. The location is the one good thing. The place is far older than the photos suggest, and it looks like nothing has been renovated in 30 years. It has no shine, so it’s hard to tell whether it’s clean or dirty. Our blinds wouldn’t lift, the toilet tank stuck and leaked, and the bathtub was such a mess that flip-flops seemed necessary for a shower. The rather eccentric concierge struggled to communicate and told us nothing about the hotel or area. Breakfast is better skipped in favor of eating out. I’d avoid this hotel, even if it’s the only option.

The rooms and bathrooms are generously sized, and the location has so much potential. But the place feels neglected: things are old and peeling, and breakfast, service, and cleanliness were all just adequate. It badly needs renovation and people who know how to bring out what makes this hidden gem special. I’m saddened by how those in charge have let it slide. With a little investment, I’m sure it could rank among the best.
