Hotel Gran Regente

The reception staff were nice and polite, and most of the team was courteous. One bald staff member was rude when speaking to people. I wondered if racism might have been behind it, though I can’t say for sure. I left with a bad impression and moved to the Eurostars hotel for the rest of my 12 days. It was much better, though I took a taxi to get downtown. The room itself was okay, but the bathroom was awful: the sink takes up so much room that it’s hard to move around. Sound insulation was poor too, and even small noises from neighboring rooms came through. Four stars would be too generous.

Being beside the cathedral and pedestrian area is handy, and there’s a short-stay space right outside for loading and unloading. You can park overnight at the hotel or at a nearby public garage with a hotel discount. The rooms are fine, reception was very friendly, and the breakfast buffet had plenty to choose from.

The beds were comfortable and the hotel was very nice. I paid 11 for breakfast, but when I went down there was VERY little hot food left, so I didn’t think it was worth the price.

You can walk to the Gothic cathedral and the historic pedestrian center in just a few minutes. Gascona street, with its Asturian cider and seafood sidrerias, is right around the corner. The staff are kind and friendly, and the four-star hotel has modern, clean, well-equipped rooms in the heart of Oviedo.
