The mattress was good, though the pillow was very high, and there’s a large wardrobe. The room is on the second floor of an apartment building and faces an interior patio, so you can hear the neighbors. There’s little room for suitcases, no bathroom furniture for putting things down, and you’ll need a socket adapter. There’s no sound insulation.

We had a really nice stay at Hostal Alvarez while walking el Camino. The room was very clean, and I found the decorations welcoming and cute. At check-in, the friendly, helpful staff gave us a map and lots of tips on places to visit and eat. The shower is in the bedroom, which could be awkward if you’re not a couple, but for us it was convenient to have our own shower instead of sharing a bathroom.

A five-minute walk gets you to both the bus station and the train station. The room was good for the price, and the staff were incredibly helpful. They cleaned daily, made the beds, and put out fresh linens each day. A great hostel for a stay in Oviedo.

For a low-cost hostel, this is a good deal and the photos are pretty accurate. It's near the center, with friendly staff, restaurants close by, and a laundry room nearby too. The bathroom could use a better clean, though nothing awful, and there's some street noise. That's city life, I guess. For quiet, you'd need the countryside.
