Viviendas Oviedo Catedral

We stayed three nights with two adults and two babies in a first-floor apartment with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It was spacious, clean, and modern, with everything new. The soundproofing was good, and having a high chair and travel cot was essential for us. Even the elevator was a hit, both strollers fit in at once. The old town location is hard to beat, right beside the cathedral on a lively but very quiet pedestrian street. There’s public parking about 150 meters away for €12 a day. Remember to ask at Gran Hotel España reception about discounts. This is the first accommodation where I haven’t found a single fault. Fantastic!

The place felt like home, and the shared areas were very clean. We collected the keys at the hotel and were escorted to the apartment. There’s a restaurant on the corner, so I’d suggest a second- or third-floor apartment, though with the windows closed, there’s no noise. Ours was the Greek apartment on the second floor, spacious, bright, and practically new. The beds were comfortable, if the pillows a bit firm. The location is excellent, with cafes and restaurants close by, San Francisco Park nearby, and Campoamor Theater and the cathedral just steps away. I highly recommend it.

The apartment was so dark that even in daytime I had to keep the lights on. Its only window looked onto an interior courtyard, with a wall barely two meters away blocking almost all natural light. It felt depressing and claustrophobic. Noise made the stay just as uncomfortable. Neighbors were banging and shouting from around 7:00 a.m., with loud sounds seeming to come from everywhere. They weren’t having parties, but I still couldn’t get a decent night’s sleep, and it affected my energy and mood during the day. The apartment was directly above a restaurant open until midnight, so every night brought clattering dishes, conversations, and music on top of the neighbor noise. I’d booked in Oviedo expecting a peaceful, pleasant stay, but from day one it was one problem after another. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere comfortable and quiet.

The apartment we booked, “El Viajero,” is huge and very well placed right beside the cathedral. Its kitchen has high-end appliances, the decor is tasteful, and they provided toys and a high chair for the children. A few fixes would have made the stay magnificent. One bathroom’s toilet seat was completely loose, so we couldn’t use it, and the other shower’s door wouldn’t shut properly, letting water leak out. A maintenance service could easily fix these. The pillows were all the same size and too firm for us, so there wasn’t another option. Please sort these things out for future guests.
