SBH Club Paraíso Playa - All Inclusive

We paid extra for a sea-view room, but most of what we saw was a yellow building, which wasn’t what we expected. There was a constant, really unpleasant sewage smell from the bathroom, and lots of cockroaches. Housekeeping repeatedly threw away our unfinished water bottles, so we had to buy more from the hotel shop. Basic supplies were missed too: our toilet roll wasn’t replaced, and we had to go to reception to ask for more. We found out from another holidaymaker that staff had entered our room despite a clearly displayed “Do Not Disturb” sign. It was too bad he couldn’t have warned us before something went missing. About £140 worth of tobacco disappeared from our room. When we reported it, reception staff acted as if they knew nothing and didn’t take it seriously. Looking at other guests’ reviews afterwards, we saw several reports of theft, which left us very uneasy about our belongings and safety. The website said there was WiFi in public areas, but we could barely get a phone WiFi signal anywhere except occasionally on the balcony. We had to rely on mobile data and got a significant, unexpected phone bill. We also left early because of the ongoing problems and no longer feeling safe or comfortable. At checkout they charged us €1 for coffee, even though the hotel was advertised as all-inclusive, and we don’t even drink coffee. The holiday fell well below what was advertised. The missing items, poor service, misleading information and unsanitary conditions meant we couldn’t enjoy the break we’d paid for and felt forced to leave early. Unhappy and disappointed. If we could rate it lower, we would. 0/10, do not recommend.

The food was delicious, with a good range of choices, and the peaceful surroundings made for a relaxing break. The hotel is just a few steps from a wonderful beach, which really made our stay special. The rooms could use some freshening up in future, but they were comfortable. The calm atmosphere and proximity to the beach made the experience thoroughly enjoyable. I had a great, restful stay and would happily come back.

Our family room was spacious and comfortable for the four nights we stayed. The rooms could use a few small updates, perhaps new curtains or wardrobe doors. Reception could also give clearer details about airport shuttles. The hotel is very isolated, with Morro Jable about a 10-minute bus ride away, so shops and activities aren’t close by. We loved the staff, who were friendly and helpful throughout. The hotel has the essentials and sits beside a beautiful, secluded beach. The water is turquoise and the sand white. There was a wide selection at the buffet, but as a vegetarian I found the choices limited compared with what meat-eaters had. The pools were very cold, and we couldn’t use them as much as we’d hoped. The advert said the temperature would be maintained, but that didn’t seem to happen during our stay. Towards the end of the holiday, my 11-year-old daughter had an upsetting allergic reaction to mosquito bites on her arms and face. We also noticed many nude sunbathers on the beach. That seems common across Fuerteventura, since we saw it on Morro Jable beaches too, but families who aren’t expecting it may be surprised. The hotel’s shortcomings were more than made up for by the beautiful nearby beach and excellent staff. We met several people on their second or third visit, which says a lot about the hotel’s appeal. I’d recommend it for a relaxing beach holiday.

For the price, we expected a much higher standard. The building and grounds were fine, though there was nothing special about them. Room cleaning was regular and we had an ocean view, but those were the only real positives. The service felt poorly organised, and the hotel management seems to be the main issue. Food was the same day after day, and a constant smell of dirty rags in the kitchen killed our appetite. Broken and chipped dishes were used in the kitchen and bar. In my opinion, the alcohol was diluted with water. There was hardly any entertainment for such an expensive stay. The same boring animation ran every evening, with an occasional performer whose show lasted no more than 20 minutes, leaving nothing to do afterwards. A large hotel had just one jacuzzi, and it was always overcrowded. I’m giving it four stars purely as a formality. The service was extremely disappointing for what they charge.
