Alberg Solidanca Hostel

I would've liked to stay longer. The staff were great, everything was clean, and my single room felt luxurious after hostels. It's a huge former Monastery, too. What spoiled things for me was other guests smoking in their rooms and in the bathroom, which had nothing to do with the staff. At 6am, I was fed up and thought, “Hurry up and die.”

For the price, this place gives you a lot of room to spread out, and the cleaning was outstanding. The area is lovely, with some of the best beaches and hikes in Costa Brava nearby. In another hotel, even a tiny shoebox room would cost at least 80 usd in September.

The location is safe and easy to get around on foot, and the breakfast was high quality, healthy, and worth paying extra for. The chef service was great. The rooms, though, were dismal, and there was no jacuzzi despite the advertisement. The women at reception were unfriendly and unhelpful.

I got excellent value for what I paid. The former monastery is enormous, with lots of spots to relax, especially the huge garden, and there's a kitchen guests can use. The rooms are basic but very clean. It's a quiet area, just outside the centre.
