Parking is best sorted early. Otherwise, you might end up handing your holiday budget to local enforcement, which seems to operate like a Swiss watch and show about as much mercy as a broken toaster. Port Bo in Palafrugell feels like a Mediterranean postcard that’s been soaking up seaside charm since the 1800s, and maybe it has. The little cove is about 100 meters long and 18 meters wide, roughly the size of a rich person’s swimming pool, only with real sand and fishing boats owned by actual fishermen instead of influencers staging a lifestyle shoot. The water is clear, the mood is calm, and there’s enough history to make you half expect a fisherman from 1900 to wander up and ask why everyone’s wearing sunglasses the size of dinner plates. The white arcaded houses, called Les Voltes, used to be where fishermen mended nets and talked about storms. These days they’re restaurants where people can sort out their hunger and gossip about tourists. Calella de Palafrugell, the village where Port Bo sits, is one of the few places on the Costa Brava that still looks like a fishing town rather than a sunburn factory. Port Bo is small, scenic, and stubbornly authentic. If calm beaches, white houses, and photogenic history are your thing, this is the place. Those after loud beach clubs and DJs shouting motivational quotes can keep walking until they reach another town.

It’s easy to fill a few days here just wandering around, taking photos, and stopping for food or souvenirs. There are beaches all over for swimming and relaxing, plus plenty of restaurants and shops. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed, so morning seems like the better time to come. Parking near the town is tough, so expect to leave the car farther away and walk. A lovely, laid-back place to visit if you’re nearby.

A little gem. I imagine it gets really crowded in summer, so spring is the best time to visit.

Lovely for swimming and sunbathing. Go early in the day or wait until late afternoon.

A great beach and a little fishing port. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area.
