Puig Artigas 2 in Calella de Palafrugell

Our large room had a balcony facing the sea, and the breakfast selection was wonderful. Thanks to the whole team for a great holiday, especially Karin among the restaurant staff, and thanks as well for the handicap parking space. One issue: although the room seemed set up for a handicapped person, the jacuzzi tub was very difficult to get in and out of. It needs replacing with a walk-in shower.

Breakfast had everything we needed, from fruit, coffee, pastries, salmon, and charcuterie to fresh juice, and we could eat outside. The staff were very friendly. The hotel sits in a lovely spot on a hill, surrounded by nature, with the village center nearby and the beach about a seven-minute walk away. I loved the huge balcony and its bay view, perfect for reading early in the morning. We never got around to using the pool, and I wish we’d had more time. I’ll definitely come back to Spain and stay here again.

Our top-floor room had a balcony bigger than any I’ve seen in a hotel, with spectacular views across Calella de Palafrugell and down to the sea. The rooms are simple and practical, and the air conditioning worked very well in 30-plus degree heat, though the bed was harder than we liked. The pool was lovely and very quiet during our stay, and breakfast was good. Sitting under the pine trees with coffee and something from the buffet was especially peaceful. The hotel is family run, spotlessly clean, and has polite, attentive staff and a relaxed feel. It’s not state of the art, which I actually like. We stayed for four nights in mid-June, and it was quiet then, a real plus. Its position above town gives great views, but the uphill walk adds exercise every day. It may be tough for anyone with mobility issues, whether getting back from town or reaching the breakfast room and pool from the top floor. There was no WiFi in our room, though the 4G was so good it didn’t really matter. WiFi worked fine around the restaurant and pool. It seems like it could get busy in season, but it’s good value and nice enough that we’d consider returning. Calella de Palafrugell is lovely for a short break or longer.

A relaxing stay, and we especially enjoyed the extra touch of a well-equipped pool table. The beach is an easy enough walk downhill, though getting back up is steep.
