Albergue Plaza Catedral

The rooms are on the small side, but each bed has its own light and charging socket. The showers and bathroom are decent, and the laundry service is great since they take care of it for you. There’s an open kitchen with free tea and coffee. The location is hard to beat, just a few metres across from the Cathedral. The cafe just to the right across the way has lovely lunch options at reasonable prices, and for a spot like this, the price is unbelievable.

The shared spaces are practical and welcoming, especially the kitchen, and getting in with a door code is easy. The location is excellent, right beside the cathedral in the old town and on the Camino de Santiago, so it suits pilgrims and people visiting the city. There are some comfort issues. With only one bathroom, people may have to wait when the place is full, and the shower room has no window, so airing it out is difficult. The bunks feel shaky and could be sturdier. It also gets very hot inside in summer. Even with the windows open, there’s no air conditioning, which makes sleeping uncomfortable in warm weather.

The location is perfect, but this was a really disappointing stay. The locker was broken and my bag was left outside it. Ants got into it as soon as I arrived, and there were lots in the lobby the next morning too. They cleaned near my bed after I pointed out the ants, but it didn’t feel like the hostel was managing the problem well. My room was cold, people were noisy in the lobby late at night, and nobody took care of it. The hostel said the locker worked, but mine wouldn’t lock. They returned just one sock from the laundry, and I found it myself in the dryer. I never called about the socks, and I’d already said I found them on my own. The sarcastic response was the worst part. I hadn’t read the reviews carefully and was really let down by the bad attitude. It wasn’t a good experience.

Our private room for three had a view of the church, and the shared bathroom was super clean. The hostel was quiet inside, with friendly people around. They even had newspaper for our wet boots. The location was very good, and I’d stay here again.
