The interior is astonishingly rich, especially the altar, which makes the plain exterior feel almost like a surprise. We were lucky to arrive right before a service. The church was dark at first, then the lights came on one by one as it went on. It was moving and magical.
The San Fermín Chapel, built from 1696 to 1717, is inside this building, which was raised in honor of Saint Lawrence. Its parish began around 1230, though almost nothing of the medieval structure survives. The exterior was remodeled in a Neoclassical style in 1901. Visitors fill the building during the San Fermín Festival each July, and a monument to the Immaculate Conception stands a little farther away.
The Baroque Chapel of San Fermín is housed here, dedicated to Pamplona's patron saint. His feast is celebrated during the San Fermín festival, including the famous Running of the Bulls. The church dates to the 14th century, though it was rebuilt in the 19th century in the Neo-Classical style.
